David wrote in Psalm 19....The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech and night to night reveals knowledge. 

Those words are high and lofty words; they carry so much weight! Sometimes when I read those words they overwhelm me with the sheer gravity of what they say! God is the creator of everything that exists. Paul writes in Colossians that Jesus holds everything together by His sheer will!

Ginny and I are on a cruise vacation this week, and I was just sitting here contemplating just how vast this world is, not to even mention our solar system, our galaxy, and our universe!

I'm sitting on our deck looking out at the vast ocean. All I can see is the blue deep water and the clear blue sky. It's huge; it's beautiful; it's breathtaking!! I know I'm so small-so insignificant-when compared to this beautiful planet we call home!

But the truth is I'm not so insignificant; in fact, I'm very significant and so are you! I know this for three reasons: God's creation, God's creation of us, and God's plan of salvation for us!

Thinking about God's creation...

When we consider this vast universe, the earth is one small planet in one solar system in the backwater of one Galaxy. There's an estimated 300 billion galaxies each with 300 billion stars with a large percentage of those stars having their own solar systems swirling around them!

This means there could be lots of planets - millions of them in fact, out there with complex life much like Earth. Which would mean we are a very insignificant planet. Just another planet like the millions of planets out there with life...no big deal right!!??

However, we know there're 14 conditions that must be tuned 100% accurately to allow for complex life to form. Can life such as we have on Earth form by chance? Without getting into the math it can be proven statistically that when you apply these 14 requirements for complex life to exist to the many billions or trillions of possible planets out there, the likelihood of complex life such as humans existing through natural selection evolutionary processes is less than 0%. 

It is a statistical impossibility for complex life forms to have risen up anywhere in the universe through an evolutionary natural selection process....totally impossible! Which means our Earth is a very unique and significant planet among all the planets of the universe! Genesis 1:1 says In the beginning God created the heavens and THE EARTH! Not the heavens and Zeta Riticuli or Dagon or Arion or Dimidium but the Heavens and THE EARTH! Earth is a specially designed planet created by God for a specially designed purpose...very significant!! 

Thinking about God's creation of us...

When we think about how complex our human bodies are, no one and I mean no one if they're being honest with themselves, can deny the evidence of design. If there is design involved then there must be a designer. David wrote in Psalm 139 You knit me together in my mother's womb! God is intimately involved in the creation of every human born. 

I look out at this vast ocean and think I'm not much...I don't really mean much in the scheme of things. But then I consider that on this very unique planet God specifically wired me to be me in my mother's womb. God specifically created me. That, my friend, is a very significant big deal!! I mean something, and you mean something; we are very significant and  special to God!

Thinking about God's plan of salvation for us...

When we think about Jesus coming to earth and dying on a cross for our sins His word says Jesus died once....one time...never to die again. He came to earth to die for humans. He didn't come to Zeta Reticuli to die for zantarians! He came to earth to die for humans. He offers reconciliation and salvation only to humans. He died and rose again only for you and me.

When he returns to rule as King he is returning with you and me to earth to rule over humans! He's not returning to Venus or any other "planet". The new Jerusalem in the future glory is going to hover over the new earth he'll create. In Revelation we hear God say I am making a new heavens and a new EARTH! 

Yes as I look out to this vast ocean and sky I think I'm not much in the scheme of things but the truth is God highly considers me...God highly considers you! We matter to him, we mean alot to him! He created a special environment for his special human creation just so he could show himself glorious in saving us and gracious in adopting us into His family!

If you know and love Jesus today...hold your head up look the devil and this world square in the face; have no fear or doubt or worry. Jesus loves you, he created you, he's coming back for you....let's live like we mean something!
