Chargers

Maybe your household is similar to mine in the fact that we have collected an absurd amount of chargers over the years…phone chargers, computer chargers, watch chargers, dog collar chargers, chargers that charge other chargers so we can wirelessly charge things that need to be charged. Many of the cords associated are outdated, but I just can’t seem to pull the trigger on letting them go. Strange, I know. Also, many of those cords have ended up in a random small basket type thing and for some reason they just sit there in one big wound up knot begging to be untangled. There was also a point, not too long ago, where certain plugs would disappear almost on a daily basis…kind of like socks in the dryer…so I started putting my name in Sharpie on all the ones which belong to me in hopes that trend would change. I’ll let you speculate on if it worked or not.
I say all of this because chargers are important to us these days in our highly technological world. At times, they seem to be a lifeline to the lives we live. When we are without them, often we worry about the battery life of our precious phones or other such devices. We make sure we have one in our rooms, one in our car, one at work and every other place we need them.
We are also in need of spiritual chargers in our lives in multiple places. I am simply going to list for you multiple ways you can get charged spiritually and I want you to think about how many of these inputs you purposely put around you so that your heart, soul, and mind can be connected to loving God and loving others.
- Regular personal bible study
- A person who prays for you
- Podcasts or Radio stations
- A small group to connect with and share life with
- Neighbors you can serve and show God’s love to
- Time in nature admiring what God has created
- Time in silence so that you can think about the Lord
- A rhythm of consistently gathering with the church
- Listening to music that makes you think about the things of God
- A place to serve or give to that no one else knows about
- Other people you serve alongside
- Enjoying a meal…”Whether you eat or drink do all to the glory of God”
- Spending time in thankfulness
I understand this is a very simple analogy many of you have heard in the past, but when I see those chargers in my home it is a reminder to me of what really needs charging. Consider the following verses:
Psalm 71:8–My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day
Proverbs 14:14b–...a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.
Acts 4:31–And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
Acts 13:52–And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:14–I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.
And in many other passages the Apostle Paul prays for the believers in many different cities that they would be filled in Christ, filled with wisdom, filled with the fullness of God, and filled with the fruit of righteousness
We need to get spiritually charged up and filled up through multiple sources so that we can experience the abundant life that Jesus promises us through Him.
Look again through that list of ways to get charged and filled up spiritually and make a decision to act on one or two of those this week.
