A Better Sabbath Rest

Hebrews 4:1-13 

There is REST available after the WORK has been completed

• God’s Example: Creation of the world – v4 “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”
• People’s Response: Create our version of the world – v3 ‘They shall not enter my rest’

Good News!

• His Rest is still Available! – v1 “Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands”
• To those who Believe! – v3 “For we who have believed enter that rest”

What Does It Mean to Believe?

Ephesians 2:4-9  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

What Work Needs to be Completed?

• God RESTED upon recognizing that His work of creation was complete.
• Christians REST upon recognizing that Jesus’ work of redemption is complete. 

What Does That Look Like for Christ-followers?
