Children Are a Blessing!

Posted by Cindy Schmidt

Hello from the Pearl of Africa! We spent time with our own sponsored children as well as the workers in the Child Development Program. These sweet people research the children who most need sponsorships, do home visits, help with medical needs or family emergencies- they are truly saints! So.many.children.live in “child-led” households, meaning the parents or relatives have died or abandoned them. They look after younger siblings, cook & clean - truly crushing! But child sponsors help them go to school & provide additional care through the CDP. Just $40 a month offers school fees, uniforms, a hot meal every day, medical care & the Good News of Jesus - check out www.africarenewal.org - click on sponsor & choose Mukono to begin your journey with a child who needs you! We currently have 43 children in need of sponsors in Mukono.

We met a young mom with THE cutest baby & toddler - her baby was due & her husband abandoned her. She delivered the baby & was literally pronounced dead several times but the Lord saved her. Today she is still sickly and caring for herself & her children is difficult - she is extremely poor but again, God delivered a sponsor for her boy from our team while we were on-site. This sends the boy to school, feeds & clothes him & provides additional services for the family. To see this beautiful family receive such a blessing was a great gift!

This beautiful girl leading worship in the photo above is Martha, our very first college graduate from the Mukono CDP- she was sponsored back in 2010 & just completed her degree in Business Administration. She is an incredible worship leader & a wonderful servant at Mukono Community Church.

We are currently sponsoring 294 children in the Mukono CDP - we lost 40 children from the program, including one of my own, due to falling behind in school, getting jobs to provide for their families, losing interest in school during the 2-year-lockdown - or even leaving Mukono to move to a far-away home in the country to survive the lockdowns. So very sad. These kids face a very hopeless & disappointing future without an education. Pray for these kids who just made a difficult journey even harder.

We are in the airport headed home - about 30+ travel hours, 4 airports, soooo many time zones- pray for good flights, no turbulence, maybe some sleep?? We really had a profitable trip - lots to share! Excited to see our people after so many years! We’ll keep posting once we actually have internet on a regular basis!
