Weapons Up #2 - When Arrows Fly (Ephesians 6:14-17)

WELCOME   (15 minutes)
Ice Breaker: What’s something you often forget or overlook when you’re getting ready for something important? (packing for a trip, game day, presentation, etc.)

WORSHIP (10 minutes)
Using your favorite streaming service, sing together “Battle Belongs” by Phil Wickham. Lyrics are on the back.

 WIN   (15 minutes)

  • Pray for any lost people your group is reaching out to!
  • Don’t just be satisfied with praying for unchurched people! Plan a holiday group event and INVITE these people too. Then work hard to help love them to Jesus.

 WORD (25 minutes)

  1. Read Ephesians 6:14–17. What stands out to you in Paul’s description of the armor? Why do you think he calls it “the armor of God” instead of “spiritual armor” or “the believer’s armor”? Read Isaiah 59:17 and Proverbs 30:5. What do these Old Testament passages tell you about the armor in Ephesians 6?
  2. Reviewing Week 1. Last week, we said: “You don’t choose your war, but you do choose your weapons.” How does this week’s message show that God has already provided what we need to fight? What happens when believers go into battle without their armor on?
  3. The Shield of Faith. “You can’t block darts you won’t name. You can’t lift a shield you won’t pick up. You can’t claim victory with your hands still in your pockets.” What “flaming darts” (doubt, fear, temptation, shame, comparison) tend to hit you most? How can faith “smother the fire” instead of letting it spread?
  4. Faith in Community. Why do you think there’s no armor for our back? What does the Testudo (shield-locking) image teach us about Christian community? When has another believer’s faith helped protect or strengthen yours? We’ve found community in this small group, but who do we know that hasn’t? Everyone name at least one person that needs community that they could reach out to this week.
  5. Application and Challenge. Which piece of armor do you need to “pick back up” this week? What practical step could help you do that? How can this group help each other “lock shields” and stand firm together?

WORKS (25 minutes)
Break up into twos and threes. Pray for each other!
