WORD (25 minutes)
- Read I Cor. 8:1-3.Paul says, “Knowledge puffs up while love builds up.” What are some ways biblical knowledge can produce pride instead of spiritual maturity?
- Have you ever been technically right but handled the situation in an unloving way? What might you do differently now?
- What is the difference between allowing another person to control your choices and voluntarily limiting your freedom out of love?
- Read I Cor. 8:6-9.Paul warns that our freedom can become a stumbling block to someone else. How can we determine whether our actions are merely bothering someone or actually harming their spiritual growth?
- The sermon contrasted the questions “Am I allowed?”and “Will this build up?” Where in your life might God be asking you to begin asking the second question?
- Read I Cor. 8:11-13.Is there a preference, comfort, opinion, habit, or personal right that could be creating an unnecessary obstacle between someone else and Jesus?
- Read I Cor. 9:19-23.What is one freedom or preference you could willingly surrender this week to serve someone, strengthen a relationship, or help another person move closer to Jesus?
