WORD (25 minutes)
- Read Matthew 6:8-11. What does “daily bread” look like in real life today? What are some needs, worries, or pressures that may feel too small or too ordinary to pray about?
- Out-of-Touch Jesus: What makes it hard to believe Jesus is “locked in” on your anxiety, your kids, your bills, your body, your appointment, or your tomorrow? Where do you often turn when you’re overwhelmed instead of Jesus?
- Read Luke 10:38-42. Martha says, “Lord, do you not care?” What does that question reveal about what she believes Jesus is missing? Martha doesn’t just think Mary is the problem. In that moment, she thinks Jesus is part of the problem. Have you ever felt that way toward God—not saying it out loud, but feeling like if He really cared, He would notice or act differently?
- The “one thing” is not walking away from the work. It’s drawing near to Jesus before pressure becomes panic. What does that look like practically? What is the difference between drawing near to Jesus before pressure becomes panic and only coming to Jesus after you are already overwhelmed?
- Read John 1:14 and Hebrews 4:15–16. Jesus doesn’t guess at your pain. He knows what it is to be human. How does that challenge the idea that Jesus is out-of-touch? Hebrews 4:16 says we can “draw near to the throne of grace.” Why is it important that the throne is a throne of grace, not criticism or performance?
- Where are you most tempted to live like Jesus is not actually in the room? Finish this sentence: “Before pressure becomes panic, I need to draw near to Jesus about…”
